West Coast Port Workers Walk Off


Dock workers belonging to the International Longshore and Warehouse Union stayed away from two shifts last week, marking the first significant disruption in what has so far been a relatively orderly labor negotiation process with the Pacific Maritime Association, which operates the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. The walk off began after a scheduled closure for an ILWU meeting on Thursday evening, but crane operators and top handler drivers skipped their Friday shifts ahead of the holiday weekend, the union said.
