Vietnam’s Covid Struggles Extend Shutdowns


Ho Chi Minh City officials extended social distancing mandates, including closure of non-essential business, through Sep. 15 after 70 days of distancing and partial lockdowns have not abated the Covid-19 outbreak that began in late Apr. VN Express reported the fatality rate as an average 241 per day in the city of 10 million people, of which 1.3 million are factory workers. Infections had briefly decreased before resuming an upward trend over the weekend.
