Sales at Canadian Tire’s sporting goods chains dropped 4% to C$441.7 million ($322.4 mm) from C$461.0 million in the second quarter, including a 0.9% negative comp. Consumers continue to feel pressure from inflation and other macro factors, pushing discretionary purchases lower. Declines in cycling, casual clothing and electronics were partially offset by a strong performance from footwear and team sports. CTC’s sports business includes SportChek, Sports Experts, Atmosphere, Sports Rousseau and Hockey Experts.
