Retail Imports Plunged 13% Last Year


December retail imports at U.S. container ports increased 8% to 1.87 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units, falling a bit short of already revised down projections from the NRF and Hackett Associates. That brings the total for 2023 to 22.3 million TEU, down almost 13% from 2022, as overstocked retailers and brands spent the year backpedaling on orders.
