Retail Imports Continue Momentum in August
Imports at the nation’s major container ports remain elevated, exceeding last year by double digits, according to the NRF and Hackett Associates’ Global Port Tracker, up 19% in Aug. to 2.34 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units. The totals exclude the ports of NY/NJ and Miami, as they haven’t been reported yet. Imports should remain higher despite the brief strike that shut down East and Gulf Coast operations last week.
