Pressure Builds for Closing the De Minimus Loophole
Legislators opened another front in the war on counterfeiting with the introduction of multiple bills aiming to level the field of de minimus exceptions which allow over 2 million shipments to enter the U.S. per day duty-free and without customs inspection. The last major change in the law came in 2016 when Congress upped the value limit for de minimis shipments to $800 from $200.
