Outdoor Participation Trends Higher in 2022
Continuing an expansion trend that pre-dates the pandemic, outdoor participation grew by 2.3% last year to a total of 168.1 million Americans, but core participation fell again, dropping below 30% for the first time, according to the OIA’s 2023 Outdoor Participation Trends report. The participant base grew by 14.5 million over the past three years, and now includes about 55% of the U.S. population ages six and older. Senior participation hit a record high of 35% last year.
