Outdoor Participation Grows, but Fewer Outings Hurts Product Demand


A record 175.8 million Americans counted among outdoor activity participants in 2023, up 4% over the prior year, according to the OIA’s 2024 Outdoor Participation Trends report, though the long-term trend of declining core participation and average outings per year continued. This year’s record participation number represents 57% of all Americans six and older, driven by casual participants across a broadening demographic swath.
