Fanatics filed suit in NY district court accusing its collectibles rival of unfair competition and tortious interference, in a countersuit filed less than a week after Panini filed an antitrust suit against the licensed apparel juggernaut. According to the 101-page complaint, Panini failed to invest in marketing or innovation and instead funneled profits back to its owners in Italy, and their incompetence is the reason why licensors chose to switch to Fanatics when deals neared expiration.
