DSW Sales Drop Hits Designer Brands in Q4


A tax asset revaluation sent DBI’s Q4 net income up more than three-fold to $45,110,000 from $14,411,000 on revenues that declined 8% to $760,546,000 from $822,626,000, pulled down by 10% lower sales at DSW’s U.S. stores. The family shoe banner’s top line shrunk 10% to $648.3 million on pressured consumer spending as stores comped down 8.1%, lapping a 36.3% gain. DSW lost athletic footwear sales in the quarter from not increasing promotions to the level of competitors, choosing instead to increase promotions in the seasonal category.
