Academy Sports Expands on Growth Plans


After reporting first quarter earnings yesterday, ASO management elaborated on its strategy for bring both value and newness to the consumer at the Oppenheimer conference. In particular, the value-based retailer believes it has permission to play deeper in the premium footwear space, counting on hotter and more innovative product from its core performance brands, including Nike, Adidas, Brooks and New Balance. While talks are ongoing with Hoka and On Running, they likely won’t bear fruit for some time as the white-hot running brands work to supply existing accounts.
