Square footage of major sporting goods retailers is projected to decline 1.5% in 2020 to about 158.4 million sq. ft. from 160.8 million sq. ft. last year, though the final tally is likely to be even lower than that, depending on the duration and depth of the economic hangover from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Big Foot reported a loss of $98 million against income of $172 million for the first quarter ended May 2 as sales declined 43% with a like comp store decline.
The bottom line swung to a first quarter loss of ¥243 million ($2.2 mm) from a profit of ¥4,365 last year, as owned and customer store closures sent revenues down 14% to ¥85,341 million ($783.3 mm) from ¥98,708 million.
