Retail Floor Space Set To Contract Further In 2020
Square footage of major sporting goods retailers is projected to decline 1.5% in 2020 to about 158.4 million sq. ft. from 160.8 million sq. ft. last year, though the final tally is likely to be even lower than that, depending on the duration and depth of the economic hangover from the Covid-19 pandemic. Some retailers have explicitly revised their expansion plans already, or vowed to scale back CapEx to conserve cash, which amounts to the same thing.
