A new update of last month’s National Retail Federation survey found that 63% of respondents expect classes to take place online this fall, up from 55% in July, and their BTS shopping plans have shifted accordingly.
Luggage maker Samsonite has been hit hard by the huge reduction in travel during the pandemic, but revenues from its Gregory Mountain Products outdoor brand fared a bit better, falling just 31% to $24.1 million in the first half from $34.9 million.
Parent TJX does not break out Sierra’s sales, but the banner’s brick-and-mortar store count remained flat at 46 in the quarter, covering about 1.0 million sq. ft.
Now that most national parks have reopened, recreational visitation ramped back up last month, but was still down 11.0% to 40,279,086 from 45,230,730 in July, 2019.
