Trade Act of 2021 Brings Potential Tariff Relief
The amendment to the popular United States Innovation and Competition Act was introduced by Senators Mike Crapo of (R-ID) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) and approved by a 91 to 4 vote in the Senate. The hefty, 852-page amendment was touted by the co-sponsors as, “a comprehensive approach to combat China’s manufacturing imbalances, threats to free and fair trade, and illicit activity which undermine America’s leadership in innovation.” It has provisions to fight forced labor, strengthen Customs and Border Protection enforcement, increase anti-counterfeiting inspections and enforcement, and address anti-competitive digital trade practices.
