Supreme Court Ruling Expands Student-Athlete Payments
While stopping short of allowing college athletes to be paid salaries, the Supreme Court ruled unanimously that some payments for reasonable expenses related to education cannot be prohibited by the NCAA. The decision in NCAA v. Alston affirmed an appeals court ruling that allowed payments for things like computers, scientific equipment or musical instruments, as well as expanding scholarships to graduate school and including travel abroad or internship-related expenses.
