State Court Rules Suit against Remington Can Proceed
The Connecticut Supreme Court ruled 4-3 that a lawsuit against the gunmaker can proceed on the grounds that its marketing campaign for the Bushmaster rifle that was used in the Sandy Hook killings glorified the use of the weapon and could be a violation of the state’s unfair advertising statutes. “The regulation of advertising that threatens the public’s health, safety, and morals has long been considered a core exercise of the state’s police powers,” Chief Justice Richard Palmer said in the majority opinion.
