SportChek Sales Jump in Q2, Also Exceeding 2019
Revenues at SportChek and CTC’s other sports banners grew 48% in the second quarter to C$453.4 million from C$306.7 million including a 28.6 % comp sales increase, and despite 11 fewer doors at 387. SportChek stores were closed for about one-third of the quarter due to Canada’s stringent Covid restrictions, compared to about half the quarter last year. Retail sales increased 40%, and were up 5% against 2019, driven by big gains from athletic apparel and footwear, especially the retailer’s private label brands. Gross margin improved due to higher in-store sales and fewer promotions and markdowns compared to Q2’ 20.
