The new 2021 State of the Industry study from the SFIA finds that the pandemic accelerated consumers’ shift towards e-commerce while improving overall participation in sports and fitness. The active population rose to 75.6% of the total last year, the highest percentage in 10 years, and 240 basis points up from 2019. The percent participating in casual high calorie activities was 21.6%, a 10-year high, and 36.7% participated in active high calorie activities, the most since 2014.
