SCOTUS Turns Down Remington’s Sandy Hook Appeal


The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal filed by Remington of a decision by the Connecticut Supreme Court to let a lawsuit filed by victims of the Sandy Hook massacre proceed on the grounds that the gun maker illegally marketed its weapon. The decision would seem to open up a potentially significant loophole in the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which gives the gun industry broad protections against lawsuits filed by victims of crimes, although the state court ruling was very narrow to the circumstances of this case.
