PHIT Act Passes Key House Committee Vote, Heads to Floor for Vote
After an 11-year battle to get the definition of a deductible expense to include sports and fitness activities, the House Ways and Means Committee voted 28-7 with significant bi-partisan support to include the PHIT Act as one of the measures that will go to the House floor the week of Jul. 23 as part of a Health Savings Act Reform Bill. SFIA has led the effort to get this proposal into law throughout the process, arguing that giving Americans a tax benefit for exercising is sound public policy because it lowers health care costs.
