Olympia Sports Files for Bankruptcy Protection
The Maine-based retailer, which announced plans in July to wind down operations at its last 35 stores, has now filed for Ch. 11 in DE bankruptcy court, owing money to dozens of industry vendors. Founded in 1975 by Ed Manganello, Olympia grew to over 230 locations across the northeast and mid-Atlantic by 2012. After closing most of its stores over the next several years, the chain was sold to CriticalPoint Capital, which combined it with Jackrabbit stores under Running Specialty Group that the PE firm had acquired from Finish Line.
