Nike Seeks to Escape European Tax Probe
The Eager Beavertons have asked the European General Court in Luxemburg for the annulment of an investigation by the European Commission into the tax status of its Dutch-based European operations, according to Reuters. Nike is arguing that the EC failed to prove that a Dutch tax ruling in its favor amounted to illegal state subsidies. The investigation stemmed from a revelation in the “Paradise Papers,” which were published by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists in 2017, revealing that the E.B.s had been paying corporate tax of less than 3% on revenues generated in the EMEA region.
