Nike Manager Accused of Racial Profiling at Santa Monica Store
The parents of 2-year-old Samuel Stallworth are suing Nike Retail Services and its Santa Monica store manager Wendy Magee, for accusing him of stealing a child-sized basketball which they had just purchased. The suit, filed in federal court in Los Angeles, says that Magee followed the Stallworths out of the store and accused them of stealing the basketball, and then called police officers for help. The event, which happened on July 5 last year, was recorded on cell phone video and subsequently went viral, attracting millions of views and resulting in an apology from Nike.
