Modell’s Closing 24 Stores, Seeks Outside Investor
CEO Mitch Modell said that the 130-year-old, family-owned chain is looking to sell a minority stake in the company, and that all options are on the table, in an interview on Fox Business. Effective immediately, he is shuttering 24 unprofitable stores out of the 141 total locations, a painful decision that was necessary to save 4,300 jobs. Modell last week said he would consider selling a stake to an outside investor, adding now that he might even pull back as executive chairman and turn over the reins to an outsider.
