Michael Avenatti Convicted on All Counts


A New York federal jury found Michael Avenatti guilty of extortion, wire fraud and transmission of interstate communications with intent to extort, after two days of deliberations. He faces a sentence of up to 20 years in prison for the crimes. Avenatti declined to testify in his own defense against charges that he attempted to extort up to $25 million from Nike, promising to reveal improper payments to amateur athletes if they did not hire him as a sham investigator. Instead, the Eager Beavertons cooperated with federal agents to record conversations of what prosecutors called an old-fashioned shakedown.
