Japanese SG Sales Hit by Weather, Natural Disasters
The Japanese economy contracted 1.2% overall in the Jul.-Sep. quarter as a hot and humid summer depressed outdoor activities and the island nation was hit by an earthquake and a typhoon, resulting in devastating floods. Domestic demand was down across industries, and exports fell 1.8% sequentially. Golf, team sports and outdoor equipment sales were affected at retail, but the effect was less immediate on the wholesale side, as Globeride, Yonex and Zett reported their fiscal first half results for the six months ended Sep. 30.
