Input Costs: Wages Rise, Freight Falls, Materials Are Mixed
The New Year opened with a welcome return to normalized ocean freight prices, which are now just $2,132 for a 40-foot container on average, according to the Drewry World Container Index’s Jan. 12 update. The latest price is down 79% from a peak of $10,377 in Sep. 2021, and 21% below the 10-year average of $2,695. It does, however, remain 50% higher than the 2019 average of $1,420.
