Holiday Finishes Strong with 9% Sales Growth
The final sales tally for this Holiday season was up 9% over the prior year and up 11% from 2019 levels, according to Mastercard SpendingPulse’s survey of sales across all forms of payment from Nov. 1 to Dec. 24. The analytics firm found in-store sales were up 8% over ‘20 and 2% over ‘19, while e-commerce continued its surge with 11% growth over the prior year and 61% growth over ‘19. Online sales penetration crawled above 2020’s spike, accounting for 20.9% of total sales compared to 20.6% last year. E-commerce accounted for 14.6% of 2019 sales.
