China Objects to House Bill Supporting Hong Kong Protestors


China expressed “serious indignation” about a bi-partisan bill passed by the House that supports the Hong Kong protestors and could lead to sanctions if certain human rights are not protected, further muddying relations between the two countries locked in a trade war. The House bill would stop exports on non-lethal crowd control products and allow the President to impose sanctions for certain human rights violations for violations of the Sino-British Joint Declaration that governs the special status Hong Kong enjoys as part of China.
