The story that will not die took another turn as former Adidas owner Bernard Tapie returned to court in France where he is accused of fraud and misuse of public funds. The whole saga dates back to 1996 when Tapie, with financing from Credit Lyonnais, bought Adidas from the Dassler family. At the time, Adidas was struggling financially and it continued to lose money under Tapie, whose varied career encompassed everything from acting to owning a soccer team to holding a cabinet post in the French government.
