Zappos Settles Data Breach Class Action Suit
After losing a lengthy appeals process earlier this year, the e-tailer has agreed to a negotiated settlement over a data breach in which personal information for 24 million customers was stolen. The suit was originally filed in 2012 shortly after the data theft was announced, but Zappos sought to have the case dismissed by arguing that almost no one in the class had suffered concrete damages from the breach. The appeals led through the 9th Circuit, which first dismissed the suit but later allowed plaintiffs to re-file, ruling that a substantial risk of harm was adequate grounds. Zappos last chance ...
