Wolverine Worldwide notes that 3M repeatedly told the company and others that there were no harmful effects from PFOA, including in the 1999 letter to WWW that is used by plaintiffs in the Zimmerman case to allege a coverup. Even after announcing a formula change in 2000 because of the persistence of the chemical in the environment, 3M continued to assure customers that there were no known adverse health implications from the use of PFOA, and 3M continued to make Scotchgard with PFOA for two years after changing the formula, WWW said.
