Washington Football Team Dubbed Commanders
Eighteen months after dropping the Redskins moniker that carried it through four years in Boston and 83 in Washington, D.C., the Washington Football Team announced its new name Wednesday morning – the Washington Commanders. The announcement brought rounds of speculation to a definitive end after reports of trademark infringement holding up popular candidate RedWolves and team officials hinting at a military-themed name in recognition of its U.S. capital location. Wednesday’s press conference lost some thunder after franchise hero Joe Theismann let the name slip to CBS Radio Monday.
