Trump Now Backs Tighter Gun Laws as More Retailers Raise Age to Buy
President Trump put his support behind the Manchin-Toomey bill that would require almost all transfers of firearms to undergo a background check and also told Republican lawmakers not to pursue an NRA-backed expansion of concealed carry rights that would require all states to recognize permits issued by another state. The concealed carry reciprocity bill was earlier attached by the Republican House to the bi-partisan Fix NICS Senate bill that would strengthen reporting of data for background checks, but that bill failed to then pass a Senate filibuster by Democrats.
