Teen Survey Reveals Gender Split on Apparel Spending
There were no surprises at the top of the favorite footwear and apparel brand lists, with Nike getting a commanding 56% of mentions for the former and 27% for the latter, in Piper Sandler’s Spring 2021 edition of its Taking Stock with Teens survey. But one surprising result was a big difference in overall apparel purchases, with boys spending 15% less on clothing than last year, but girls spending 9% more. While spending on sneakers rebounded coming out of the pandemic, clothing sales remained down around 20% in the second half, according to Commerce Dept. data.
