Strong Champion Growth Drives Hanesbrand Net


Despite a still shaky innerwear business exposed to mass market shifts, strong growth at Champion pushed up HBI net to $153,972,000 compared to $140,633,000 for the Jun. 30 quarter as sales rose 3% to $1,760,927,000 against $1,15,443,000. The U.S. Activewear segment had 11% growth in sales to $448,277,000 from $405,785,000 while operating income rose 20% to $$68,779,000 from $57,508,000. International, which includes Champion’s overseas business, saw sales improve 4% to $568,863,000 from $545,862,000 with operating income up 6% to $81,078,000 from $76,558,000. Domestic Innerwear sales dropped 2% to $673,604,000 from $694,694,000 with operating profit off 6% to $149,530,000 from $159,129,000.
