SportChek Grows Sales in Promotional Q4


Revenues at Canadian Tire’s SportChek unit, formerly called FGL Sports, increased 2% to C$469.0 million ($361.9 mm) from C$461.8 million in the retailer’s largest quarter, including 1.8% comp store sales growth. Sales per square foot decreased slightly to C$298 from C$299. An unseasonably warm Dec. exacerbated an already promotional retail environment, leading the retailer to increase targeted discounts which cut into margins. Sales were driven by the accessories, outerwear and athletic apparel categories, and the WOODS and Helly Hansen brands, with e-commerce growing significantly.
