Shop Safe Act Targets E-commerce Platforms
A bipartisan group of representatives introduced the Stopping Harmful Offers on Platforms by Screening Against Fakes in E-Commerce Act in the House this week, which requires online marketplaces to do more to prevent the sale of counterfeit products. The Shop Safe Act would make a marketplace liable for trademark violations if it does not follow certain best practices, including vetting sellers to ensure their legitimacy, removing counterfeit listings, and removing sellers who repeatedly sell counterfeits.
