Shimano Profit Nearly Doubles on 12% Sales Decline


Net income was ¥19,663 million ($183.3 mm) compared to ¥10,050 million for the first quarter ended Mar. 31 on sales of ¥76,920 million ($717.2 mm) compared to ¥87,714 million. Operating income declined 22% to ¥12,658 million from ¥16,285 million but final results were boosted mostly by a ¥10,074 million gain on currency against a ¥2,359 million charge last year. Bicycle component sales slipped 15% to ¥58,868 million from ¥69,603 million with operating income in the segment down 26% to ¥10,298 million from ¥13,926 million.
