Retail Imports Continue to Reach New Heights
Retail imports finished 2021 with a record high total of 25.8 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units, up 17.4% from 2020, according the NRF’s PortTracker, which expects strong consumer demand to continue, but imports to grow modestly in the first half of 2022. The decline in export production coupled with factories closing in China for the Lunar New Year, gives ports an opportunity to reduce backlogs.
