Led by strong growth in the outdoor and women’s sectors, the retail square footage of 38 major sporting goods retailers is expected to increase to 178,015,000 in 2015 against 168,350,000 sq. ft. the prior year. The 2015 expansion pace is just moderately behind the 2014 growth rate of 6.5% as retail concern about the future mix of on-line and off-line sales seems to be tempering brick-and-mortar expansion plans somewhat.
