President Biden Going it Alone on Gun Control
With two bills seeking to expand background checks for firearms purchases stalled in the Senate, President Biden laid out a list of initiatives that he plans to implement via executive action and by directing policy changes at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Justice Department. He also announced that David Chipman, who has advised gun control groups including Everytown for Gun Safety and Giffords Law Center, would be his nominee to lead ATF. If confirmed, Chipman will be the first ATF chief since before the Trump Administration, though he is likely to face strong opposition from Republicans.
