Porcari Named Port Envoy as West Coast Backup Hits 41 Vessels
The Biden administration announced Friday that former Obama DOT Deputy Secretary Security and COO John D. Porcari is now the port envoy of the department’s Supply Chain Disruptions Task Force, which launched in June. The move comes as Southern California ports hit their highest congestion numbers since Feb. Figures from supply chain analyst firm project44 show 41 vessels anchored outside of LA and Long Beach awaiting berth space – topping February’s 40 – and 33 moored at both ports as of Aug. 26, driven by pulled forward imports for the Holiday season.
