Peloton Lashes Out After CPSC Warning

The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued an urgent warning to consumers to stop using Peloton’s Tread+ treadmill, citing a child’s death and multiple reports of children and pets being sucked under the tread slats. The CPSC is aware of 39 incidents involving the Tread+ and children or pets, and warned of serious risks of abrasions, fractures and death. It suggested that merely locking the treadmill was not enough, since at least one incident occurred when an adult was exercising on the Tread+. PTON shares fell 7% in the first day of trading since the notice was posted.
