Outdoor Recreation Activity Continues to Decline
Just over half of Americans participated in outdoor recreation at least once in 2018, according to the latest report from OIA’s Outdoor Foundation, with just 33.2% of respondents moderately active—going on outings about once a month—compared to 35.1% in 2008. Americans went on 1 billion fewer outings overall than 10 years earlier in 2008. The report points to two key demographic trends for this figure: an aging U.S. populace and the declining number of young participants.
