Opening Salvos in Trade War Fired


The Trump Administration followed through on its threat to impose 25% tariffs on $34 billion of Chinese imports with another $16 billion in goods to follow. The imposition of the new tariffs had been expected, and the Chinese are expected to reciprocate with tariffs on a similar amount of U.S. exports. The U.S. tariffs missed most consumer products, including sporting goods, while China’s retaliatory tariffs are targeted largely at agriculture and cars in an effort to make Trump’s political base feel the pain first.
