Ocean Shipping Reform Act Passes House


The Senate’s version of the bipartisan Ocean Shipping Reform Act (OSRA) was passed in the House of Representatives by a vote of 369 to 42, and will head to President Biden’s desk where he is expected to sign it. The bill, introduced in the Senate in Feb., is intended to level the playing field for American importers and promote growth and development of U.S. exports. It grants the Federal Maritime Commission, the independent federal agency responsible for the regulation of international ocean shipping, greater authority over harmful practices by ocean carriers and increases industry transparency.
