Obituary: Bob Gore


The son of W.L. Gore founder Bill Gore and the man who revolutionized outdoor apparel with the 1969 discovery that PTFE could be stretched to form a waterproof, breathable membrane, died Sep. 17 after a long illness at the age of 83. He took over the reins of the company from his father in 1976 as president and stepped down in 2000 although he remained as chairman of the family- and employee-owned company until 2018.
