NPD: Athletic Footwear and Activewear Sales Fell in 2020
Despite a few isolated success stories such as golf and a resurgence in performance running and outdoor in the second half, the pandemic weighed heavily on both sneaker and activewear sales last year, according to NPD Group. Athletic footwear sales were down mid-single digits in 2020, with higher ASPs partially offsetting a low-teens decline in pairs, and men’s, women’s and kids’ all down. Golf footwear sales were up low-teens and tennis was flat, but all other categories declined.
